Comedy takes on a serious tone in the latest production by the Cayman Drama Society. Dream, Lover! by English playwright Ian Hornby tells the story of a marriage headed for the rocks due to the husband's philandering thoughts.

"It's very, very funny but it also has a message - that the grass is not always greener on the other side," said director Colin Wilson.

"That's why I chose it. It does have a serious side, which is a little bit different."

The premise: to spice up his life Steve spends hours Rick Glass (left) stars as Steve and lan Morgan as his friend Gerry in the Cayman Drama Society's upcoming production, Dream, Lover!

fantasizing about the woman of his dreams. As he imagines the perfect mate, he becomes increasingly frustrated with his marriage.

When his wife Janet hosts a lingerie party, one of the guests turns out to be the absolute image of his "dream" lover. While there are plenty of laughs, the play's change in pace and twist ending "will make people think," said Mr. Wilson.

He directs a cast of six, with Rick Glass tackling his first principal role as Steve. Louise Rigdon plays his wife Janet, Ian Morgan is Steve's friend Gerry and Janine Moss is Claire. Rounding out the cast are Hannah Wiley and Dina Douglas, a newcomer to the Cayman Drama Society.

Cathy Wight is producer and Helen Godfrey is stage manager. Mr. Wilson is a big fan of comedies though he's rarely had a chance to direct them. He came across the script for Dream, Lover! after meeting Ian Hornby, who came to Cayman to take in the world premiere of Magna Carta: The Musical Trial of King John.

Mr. Wilson's original script was published by New Theatrical Publications (NTP), a UK company cofounded by Mr. Hornby. Mr. Hornby has more than 40 published plays, writing under various pseudonyms for other publishing houses as well as under his own name for NTP.

"He is a very prolific writer," said Mr. Wilson. Dream, Lover! opens 11 September at the Prospect Playhouse and continues Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays through 27 September. Dinner theatre performances are on Saturdays, catered by the Cracked Conch.

Tickets cost $15 Thursday and Friday and $35 for Saturday's dinner theatre. Curtain is at 7:30pm For reservations, call the box office at 949-5054.
