All of the costumes were not on stage during a recent weekend at the Prospect Playhouse.

For the month-long world premiere of Magna Carta: The Musical Trial of King John, the Cayman Drama Society organised two special evenings of baronial feasting before the performance. Theatre goers were invited to dress in "period" costumes - the period being the reign of King John of England, from 1198 to 1216.

Winner of the first prize, two tickets to Ft. Lauderdale courtesy of Cayman Airways, was Angus Foster. Second prizewinner, Dr. Karen Dunbar, will receive a beautiful, coloured copy of the original Magna Carta suitable for framing and including translation.

The costume contest was held both nights of the Baronial Feast. Dr. Dunbar was the winner on Friday and Mr. Foster on Saturday. The names of Foster and Dunbar were then drawn on Saturday, with Foster being the first winner.

According to observers from the CDS, Mr. Foster was dubbed "Pope Magna" as he presented himself complete with the good tablecloth for his robe and a mitre of impressively constructed cardboard. The "family heirloom lace and jewels" (scraps and gumball machine winnings) added the realistic touches.

Dr. Dunbar wore a lovely gown of white with flowing black velvet cape. Her medieval headpiece and long white delicate scarf cascaded around the hat, softly framing the ensemble.

Each costumed participant received a great round of applause from the audience, but Foster was definitely a house and judges' favourite, say CDS correspondents.

Magna Carta will continue this weekend and next, Thursday through Saturday, 3 May at the Prospect Playhouse. For reservations or more information call 949-5045.
