Scheduled to open last night at the Hyatt Pavilion, Forever Plaid features the same music made popular by the "guy groups" of the 1950s-60s: the Crew-Cuts, Four Aces, Four Lads. It was a time when one criterion for a singer was that he have a voice, not just a well-choreographed video.
"The Plaids" are four guys who never made it to the top, but their story depicts with humour what might have been, while showcasing over 20 songs. Back in their roles as Frankie and Sparky are Neil Rooney and Kevin Redfern. New members are Steve Morgan as Jinx and Dan Morisseau as Smudge.
Neil recruited Steve when he met him in the Cayman National Choir. Dan earned his local acting credentials with the Cayman Drama Society. This is his musical debut. The 80-minute show does not have an intermission.
The Hyatt and Mango Road Productions Ltd. have paired Forever Plaid with a buffet dinner that should appeal to tourists and residents alike - anyone looking for a special night out. Doors open at 6.30 pm and the show starts at 8.30 pm. Tickets are CI$60 for adults, $45 for children 12 and under. A cash bar is available.
Forever Plaid runs for 28 shows into May. Reservations are through the Hyatt, 949-1234.
