With the success of "The King and I" now just a happy memory, the Cayman Drama Society is turning its attention to presenting a "Winter Wonderland" - a walk through Santa's home, where people will be able to see his Elves hard at work getting his sack filled with gifts, Mrs. Claus cooking in her quaint kitchen and, of course, Santa himself.

The Winter Wonderland will open at the Prospect Playhouse on Monday, 14th December, from 6 to 8 p.m., and will continue until Saturday, 19th December. The Society knew that it would not be able to present its usual Christmas pantomime this year, because almost all of its actors were involved in "The King and I", but really didn't want to disappoint all the children who normally come to the panto; hence the idea of Winter Wonderland came into being.

The Cayman Drama Society wishes to give credit for the idea to the National Trust of the Cayman Islands, who annually transform the Playhouse into a spooky maze for their Halloween Haunted House. Although the National Trust could not use the Prospect theatre for this purpose in 1998, they have already reserved the Playhouse for the haunted house next October.

The Winter Wonderland will be a similar maze, this time of "ice tunnels" through which members of the public will be able to walk and see all the different creations the Society has put together, including a magnificent miniature village and a scene of Santa with reindeer and sleigh leaving to distribute gifts. The admission fee will be CI$5 per person (regardless of age) and for an additional small charge you can have your photo taken on Santa's knee.

From Santa's home you will walk through a transformed auditorium to the foyer, where one can purchase mince pies and slices of traditional Christmas cake, washed down with eggnog, mulled wine, fruit punch or the drink of your choice.

Penny Phillips, the Secretary of the Cayman Drama Society, says that she thinks families will really enjoy this addition to the Christmas season, and hopes that those people travelling around to look at the fabulous display of lights at the many decorated homes around the Island will also stop by the Prospect Playhouse and join in the fun.
