Don't mention the war... or the wedding anniversary.
Ending its series of staged Fawlty Towers episodes, the Cayman Drama Society presents The Anniversary and The Germans, opening Friday night for dinner theatre.

Reworked and directed for the stage by Colin Wilson, the first episode has Basil arranging a surprise wedding anniversary party for Sybil. However, when he pretends that he forgot the anniversary for the second year in a row she gets angry and leaves before the party begins.

The second part of the agenda shows the arrival of some German visitors to the hotel. While Basil struggles to not mention World War II, he battles with a decorative moose head and confuses his guests while setting of the burglar alarm during a fire drill.

The two lead characters, Basil and Sybil, are played by actors new to the roles but not new to the CDS stage. Tony Rowlands brings the sarcastic Basil to life, while Penny Phillips plays the controlling Sybil.

The characters Manuel, Major and Polly are being performed by actors who have stepped in those shoes before. They are David Godfrey, Roger Carne and Kate Bowring, respectively.

The play is being shown at the Prospect Playhouse on 7, 8, 13 to 15 and 19 to 22 June at 7:30pm. Friday nights are dinner theatre and tickets are $25. Tickets for regular nights are $12.50 and available from Phillips Electrical at 949-5585 or at the door.
