The first week of 'My Fat Friend' by Charles Laurence at the Prospect Playhouse went well, says the show's producer Penny Phillips. "We had good sized houses and the play was well-received," she reports of the Cayman Drama Society's latest venture.

'My Fat Friend', directed by Bill Bazelmans is a comedy which has been performed all over the world from Berlin to Buenos Aires; Switzerland to South Africa.

The play stars Karen Armstrong as Vicky Pope who runs a bookshop attached to her Hampstead, London home. Vicky has two male lodgers, one a shy Scot, James played by Conrad MacVicar and the other a rather camp 'queen' Henry, portrayed by Ray Goodman.

The play opens with a very overweight Vicky who has reached the stage that none of her clothes fit.

A chance encounter with a Canadian geologist named Tom (Graham Mulford) who is looking for books on Iran, leads to a dinner invitation and quite a lot more.

Tom, however, is leaving for Iran for four months the next day. With the barbed encouragement of Henry, Vicky embarks on yet another diet to "Lose a ton for Tom" prior to his return to England at Christmas. To give away more of the plot would spoil your enjoyment of the play, says Penny who suggests you come along and be entertained by the performance this week. 'My Fat Friend' is on at the Prospect Playhouse on Thursday and Saturday evening, performance only, at 7:30pm, price $10 each.

Friday night is Dinner Theatre at $25 a ticket and starts at 7:30pm.
