Rehearsals were temporarily suspended over the holiday season but they will resume next week.
Cast members include Ms. Gwen Diaz who plays the role of Mabel the soprano lead. Mr. Alan Hall is cast as the Pirate King while David Bird is the Major-General. Others are Mrs. Elizabeth Drennan as Ruth, Mr. Ian Peake as Frederick and Mr. Peter Riley as the Seargent of Police.
Mr. Bob Drennan is directing the play and the script is a familiar one to him as he directed the play before, the last being in his native Scotland. "The last time I directed this play we had 56 young maidens. The chorus we have for the upcoming production is a still a little thin on the ground. We're going to have fun staging the production and we could really use anyone who is interested in participating. What I would like to see is some whole families getting involved mums, dads and kids after all, this is a family show," said Bob.
Although most of the costumes are on hand for the show, CDS is urging residents to donate any old gowns or bridesmaid dresses which can be used in the performance. "In the first act of the show, all the young ladies have to appear in full length dresses. We just hope that people here on the island can donate some dresses that they no longer need or no longer want to keep stored. I had to make a similar appeal when I did this in Scotland and the response was fantastic. We received almost eighty dresses ranging from top of the range designer gowns to some that fell considerably below that," he said.
Anyone who has a bridesmaid dress or ballgown that they are willing to donate to the Cayman Drama Society should contact Bob at the High School or telephone Mr. Tony Osborn during the evenings at 94986.
