Lieutenant Governor Rufus Stoy pinned those officers, who were: president Allison Lovinggood, vice president Shelleen Hooker, secretary Elke Feuer and treasurer Tricia Merren. These officers were installed last year as well, except the vice president, who was Janet Farrington.
Miss Lovinggood later pinned three new members, Lori Anderson, Shelly Banks and Micheal Mercure. Tara Rivers and Desiree Sampange were not present.
Miss Lovinggood said the Key Club had been formed at the Triple C School with the help of Kiwanian Paul DeFreitas, Advisor of the Club Ms. Rachel Bloyd and Principal of the School Mrs. Marge Ebanks. She said last year's achievements included a lot of changes with the canteen and as a result the business was going much smoother. Miss Lovinggood pointed out that the project to help the Children's Ward at the Hospital by creating a play area had gone well except for the lack of manpower and tools but added that hopefully this made the club members realise that "we needed to shoot for a better year".
She stressed that the club needs more togetherness and asked everyone to pitch in and be committed to making 1988-89 a great year. Miss Lovinggood concluded with thanking the parents for their patience with all the transportation.
Chairman of the evening was Kiwanian Paul DeFreitas who is the sponsored youth chairman and president elect of the Kiwanis Club of Grand Cayman. This club works with the Key Clubs at Triple C and the Cayman Islands High School.
At the dinner, Mr. DeFreitas spoke on the beginning of Kiwanis in Cayman and currently having two Lieutenant Governors. He spoke of the Kiwanis association of clubs in Cayman including the Key Clubs and the Kiwaniannes (ladies) Club as well as the Kiwanis Club of Seven Mile Beach.
Chairman of youth services and of the recent Kiwani Bike, Mr. Roger Bodden spoke on the theme of the evening: Excellence. He told Key Club members that they should enthusiastically act upon whatever they imagined, desired or believed in, in order to achieve excellence.
In her speech at the dinner, Ms. Bloyd said she volunteered a year and half ago to be a temporary advisor after observing the enthusiasm of these students and knowing that the Key Club was a good one. She said, "The objects of the club are synonymous with many of those at the School such as developing initiative and leadership, providing experience in living, working together to prepare for useful citizenship, to cooperate in creating and maintaining sound public opinion and high idealism which makes possible the increase of righteousness, justice, patriotism and goodwill. Ms. Bloyd said working with the club is a good experience and they had accomplished some of the goals set. She said the club is looking forward to developing a mature service club with the continuing help of the school principal and Kiwanians Paul DeFreitas, Roger Bodden, Ernest Foster and Edward Hessing.
