Approximately 225 people were in attendance at the play that, in spite of its title, takes place on an island somewhere in the Caribbean.
Produced by the Cayman Drama Society, Beirut is a complex. mystery centered around drug deals and characters whose true nature is often mistaken.
Much of the action takes place in a nightclub and casino that has been affectionately dubbed 'Beirut' by the owner who cannot escape his sordid and secret past life in the Middle East.
Mr. Sydney Coleman and Mr. Wilson collaborated on the direction of the play and the partnership seems to have been effective.
The audience cheered when the true villian was caught. They grumbled when a woman from the main character's past returned to haunt his new life and all tension was occasionally eased by giggles over the local drunk.
Mr. Wilson said the turnout for the opening night was "incredible" and he was looking forward to seeing even more attend.
The Drama Society invites everyone to come and try to discover the main culprit in this truly "who did it" mystery.
Beirut will be running Wednesday thru Saturday at the Harquail Theatre until 19 November.
