The production will be showing at the Harquail Theatre from the 13 May until 28 May on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings starting at 7:30. There will be two matinee performances starting at 2:30 on Saturday 21 and 28 May.
This musical zooms in on a small Jewish village in Russia called Anatevka and displays the “traditions” of its inhabitants.
Revolving mainly around one family, the story unfolds telling of the hardships, sadness and difficulties faced and the manner in which each obstacle is dealt with.
Poor Tevye's problems begin when three of his five daughters set their hearts on the “wrong” man.
Matters become worse with the arrival of a stranger who introduces a new way of thinking into the village much to the delight of the gossips. While Tevye keeps asking “Why?” his wife tries to keep the family in some semblence of order. In between the dreams, the weddings, the Russian ambushes, the breaking of traditions and uprooting of families life somehow carries on. "With its believable, humorous and wonderful characters, the moving and evocative music, the stirring and flamboyant dancing and above all the real life story of a group of people who stick to their traditions no matter what, the magic of the "musical unfolds in what can only be a unique style," said Mr. Jon Vaughn, director of Fiddler on the Roof.
