A gala Champagne Opening at the Harquail Theatre will start the run of 'Girl in a Wheelchair,' a fast paced thriller, written and irected by Colin Wilson and presented by the Cayman Drama Society, (CDS).

Present at the gala will be His Excellency the Governor, Mr. G. Peter Lloyd and Mrs. Lloyd, when CDS Chairman Tony Osborn announces details of a trust which has been set up by the CDS to provide scholarships for Cayman residents in acting, stagecraft and related studies. Those eligible may be sent overseas to study or a qualified tutor may be brought to Cayman to teach these subjects once the trust has been established.

All proceeds from 'Girl in a Wheelchair' will go towards the trust as will all profits from CDS productions throughout 1987. The recent CDS production, 'Move Over Mrs. Markham,' set the ball rolling with some CI$800.00 going into the trust.
A board of trustees will decide how funds should be disbursed. According to Colin Wilson, "One of the trustees may put forward a candidate for a scholarship; conversely, the trustees may be approached by an individual who feels qualified for a scholarship. Such an application would also be considered." 'Girl in a Wheelchair,' in two acts, stars Gwen Diaz and Colin Wilson supported by Deborah Walker, Rhona Howells, Graham Howells, Lisa Merren, Tony Rowlands, Stuart Hurst, Leroy Holness and Kingsley Donalds. The Gala Opening will begin at 6:45 on 20 May, with champagne and refreshments being served prior to the play commencing at 8:00 p.m. Tickets for the gala are available from JEC Building Consultants located above Cayman Optical in the McTaggart Building, on Edward Street.

Tickets for other performances on 22, 23, 27, 28, 29 and 30 May will be available from the box office at the Harquail Centre and JEC Building Consultants.
