Writer Wilson has doubled as director for the premiere work, which is produced by Wendy Hillman and features a number of familiar Drama Society luminaries.
Set on an equally familiar Caribbean island, the the plot of the thriller weaves and twists about the Davenport family. Housed in their ancestral home at the top of a cliff are the aging Sir Henry Davenport (played by Stuart Hurst) and his very new and very scheming wife Anita (Deborah Walker). Anita's two grown children the womanising Darren and the flirtatious Stephanie (Graham and Rhona Howells) make up the balance of this happy household, along with the family servants Dexter (LeRoy Holness) and Annis (Lisa Merren).
Into this mob stumbles Girl's girl in a wheelchair: Christine, Sir Henry's daughter, who is recovering from a serious accident which has relieved her of the ability to walk. Her happy homecoming is complicated by the sudden, unexplained absence of her father -- "away on business," she's told by Anita and the equally unexplained presence of a certain Dr. Allen who purports to know the young lady well, being an old chum of her dad's, but can she remember him? Certainly not....
Gwen Diaz takes the part of Christine, whose wheelchair-bound attempts to unravel the mystery of her father's whereabouts put the "thrill" in the thriller. Colin Wilson steps into the role of actor to play Dr. Allen, and two police officers brought into the fray are played by Tony Rowlands and Kingsley Donalds.
Girl in a Wheelchair runs from Wednesday, 20 May to Saturday, 30 May at the Harquail Theatre. Reservations may be obtained by ringing 92120.
