Heavy equipment moved onto the site of The Cayman Drama Society's proposed theatre last week to begin the first stage of work by clearing and filling in the land.

The Society hopes to be able to stage productions in its new home during 1980, the tenth anniversary of the drama group.

Fund raising has also been most encouraging during the past six weeks according to Mike Parker, chairman of the fund raising committee. This includes donations, reserves and profits from their latest production 'Don't Just Lie There Say Something'. So far they have accumulated in excess of CI$30,000 to meet the total building cost of CI$46,000 and Parker says that he "has every confidence that the hard working team of fund raisers will achieve its goal of a further CI$16,000 within the next 60 days."

Talk has it that the next event planned may be an outdoor production on the partially completed site, with trees and scaffolding, birds and crickets, providing an unusual musical backdrop for an ambitious project.
