This was reported to the Society's Annual General Meeting, which was held at the Town Hall on Tuesday.
Of particular note is the fact that of the five productions, South Pacific, Man for All Seasons, Love Is..., Star Spangled Girl and Parrot's Review, the huge success of South Pacific led to it making a greater profit than the others put together.
The Society ended the year with a surplus of $2125, derived from a fifty-percent increase in membership subscriptions, revenue from advertising and from social functions in addition to production revenues.
During the year two overseas tours were undertaken, one to a festival in Florida while, more recently, Parrot's Review was performed on Cayman Brac. It was stated that the Society had faced some unusual expenditure during the period under review.
Money had been spent on renovations at the George Town Town Hall and on some electrical work at the airport warehouse which is being. used by the Society. In addition, they have purchased sound and lighting equipment.
Officers for the coming year were elected as follows: Chairman, Mike Marshall; Treasurer, Graham Stapely; Secretary, Ann Smith. Toni Parker, Mike Parker, Nick Press and Gale Shaw were reelected to the committee and newly elected were Peter Smith and Tony Staples. Both Mr. Stapely and Mr. Smith are new members of the Society. Commenting on the forthcoming year, Mr. Marshall said after the meeting that he was confident that with the able assistance of the committee the high standards and traditions of the Society will be upheld. "We will continue to produce good drama in the Cayman Islands," he added. Mr. Marshall succeeds retiring Chairman Nick Press and was himself the Treasurer last year.
