For a critic to attack an amateur production in the scathing manner which your reporter used in the January 20th review of "South Pacific' is inappropriate, unacceptable, and itself amateurish. Most of all, it is unfair to a group of people who have laboured valiantly and well, and who need to be encouraged rather than sanctimoniously ridiculed in their efforts to bring live theater to Grand Cayman.

Anita Wheaton's portrayal of Nellie Forbush was, in fact, stellar. Her voice and delivery were the highlight of the evening, and squarely smacked of Mary Martin. Barbara McCalla was brilliant and superby cast as Bloody Mary. Your reviewer, it seems, entirely missed the point of her performance.

These two alone, though there were numerous others, were worth the price of admission, and then some. We thoroughly enjoyed the U.S. Navy, even with its British accent! Our plandits to the Cayman Drama Society and the Cayman Singers. Arthur D. Bloom and Rhoda B. Serra.
