"South Pacific," the year's first theatrical fare, opened last night in the Town Hall in George Town to a near-capacity audience.

The production, co-sponsored by the Cayman Drama Society and the Cayman Singers, had a basic cast of 34, with many of these doubling up. The Town Hall had literally been transformed into a South Sea island by set designer Margaret Barwick. Usherettes moved about accommodating the audience, dressed in colourful skirts split down the side and bare midriff.

The Rodgers and Hammerstein musical, based on James Michener's Tales of the South Sea Islands, plays until February 4, with presentations on January 20, 21, 25, 26, 27 and 28, and February 1,2,3 and 4. See review on page A2
