Cayman Drama Society presents "Golden Conchs" awards

Recipients of the coveted "golden conch" awards were as follows. Peter Stokes for his performance as the Russian sailor in The Hostage won the best male or female non-speaking role award. Anton Duckworth for his performance as Rio Rita in The Hostage won the best cameo performance by an actor award and Vivian Gallagher for her performance as Colette in The Hostage won in the same category.
The most outstanding male and female newcomer awards went to Stan Bleasdale for his performance as Henry Hornett in Sailor Beware and Anita Wheaton for her performance as Madame Dubonnet in The Boyfriend, respectively.
The best performance by a character actor and actress went to Roger Moir for his performance as the Dauphin in St Joan and Judy Dredge for her performance as Hortense in The Boyfriend. Mike Blackie and Anita Wheaton received the best supporting actor and actress awards respectively for his performance as Percival Brown in The Boyfriend and her portrayal of Madame Dubonnet in The Boyfriend.
Mike Blackie's Percival Brown and Judy Dredge's Hortense, both in The Boyfriend production, took the male and female musical performance awards.
Bill Bazelman, Claude Beaulieu, Paul Kipling and Peter Phillips won the best set construction and design team award for their work in The Boyfriend and Bil Bazelman also got the stage manager award for the same play.
Georgia Lee McSorley won best producer award for The Boyfriend and Gayle Shaw for the best director, same play. High spot of the evening wás the announcement of the awards for best performance by a lead actor to Mike Blackie for his inquisitor inSt. Joan and best performance by a lead actress to Ann Dorn for her St. Joan.
Nancy Whitefield received a special award for wardrobe in The Boyfriend.
There was a 16-member panel of judges, not in any way connected with the productions, who voted by secret ballot. Price Waterhouse conducted the auditing.
Jack Andressen provided theme music from the various Drama Society productions on the piano throughout the awards dinner. Disco followed.
By all accounts, the evening was a huge success and The Cayman Free Press congratulate all the winners.
