The Cayman Singers-Cayman Drama Society joint production of the musical comedy the Boyfriend opening night performance proved once again that "where there is a will, there is a way."

Sixty-two dedicated theatre people, the largest group ever assembled for a local production, worked four nights a week for eight weeks to put together the most ambitious theatrical production ever attempted here and they are certainly to be commended for it.

All their diligent effort proved well worth it, judging by the response of the first night's audience which obviously picked up the enthusiasm generated by the performers and orchestra players.

The show was well-paced, the singing, dancing and music sparkling, effective, and well-executed, and the performances by the girlfriends and boyfriends buoyed up any weak spots.

The costumes, the three sets and the lightning, all helped to recreate the era of the nostalgic roaring 20's, complete with flappers and French finishing schoolgirls.

Although the Boyfriend opened Thursday evening to less than a full house, the audience seemed to appreciate the jubilant cast's triumph over all the apparent built-in difficulties, which resulted in a delightful evening's entertainment that should not be missed.

Everyone involved in the production deserves a huge round of applause for putting their hearts into a job well done.
