Auditions for this beautifully written drama will be held at the Town Hall on Wednesday 20th August, at 7.30 p.m. and members and prospective members are invited. The play has a large cast of fascinating characters, and thespians both young and old are urged to attend.
There are very strong parts for the nine females and four males in the cast. This preponderance of female roles will be gratifying to local actresses, as so many plays are "man-heavy", e.g. our last production Arsenic and Old Lace had only three female parts in a large cast and, of course, The Long and the Short and the Tall was all men.
..The action of Separate Tables is set in a small seaside residential hotel, and the guests work out their individual affaires and dramas during the two casts. The characters we are looking for are: Two maids, any ages these parts are suitable for someone who hasn't been on stage before. Two dowager types and one female huntin' and fishin' character. A medical student and his wife, a couple in their twenties. Two sophisticated and attractive women in their late twenties or thirties. A repressed spinster type. A retired major and a retired school master, and finally a very worldly journalist in his thirties or forties.
The play will be directed by Judy Dredge, and if anyone is particularly interested in reading for a part, but can't attend the Wednesday 20th August audition, please call her during office hours at 92484. We will also be looking for backstage help, so anyone willing to assist set designing, building, painting, decorating, organising sound, lighting, and costumes, etc. should also attend the auditions.
