Other special invited guests were: Norman Bodden, General Manager of Cayman Airways, who was presented with an Honourable Membership pin; John Furze, President of Rotary; James Smith, President of Kiwanis and Al Thompson, 2nd Vice President of the Jaycees. After a sumptuous meal, I.P.P. Peter Balls handed over the microphone to Past District Governor Louis Chung who installed the new Lions Club Officers. The Directors, consisting of Attlee Bodden, Len Cohen, McRoyce Powell, Carl Gordon and Kirkland Nixon were first to be installed.
Lennie Hew was installed as Tail Twister and Harvey Stephenson, Lion Tamer. Other Officers installed were: David Arch, 1st Vice President; Gaston Maloney, 2nd Vice President; George Seymour, 3rd Vice President; Barclay Coe, Secretary and Chris Bain, Treasurer.
Rotarian Clarence Flowers was presented with a Lions banner for continued support of the Lions Club. Also receiving Lions banners were representatives of the various Service clubs present. McRoyce Powell was presented with the Key Membership Award and Robert Powell the Perfect Attendance Award.
After being installed as the new Lions President, Mike Simmons gave a speech in which he emphasised a few of the Lion's goals for the 75-76 year.
They were: To see that Cayman Brac and Little Cayman get a fair share of this Lion's Club service and activity; Sight Conservation for the blind, pay more attention to the hospial, the underprivileged, the aged, a combined effort with the Leo Club and the youth, A fund raising drive to buy land for the building of a community centre, and, last but not least, sharing the spirit of Lionism with our members and the general public.
"I would to use the Chinese Philosophy as our theme or slogan for this fiscal year, July 1975 to June 1976, "Many hands make work light.
"In this Lion's Club the only way we attain our goals and targets, is by remembering our motto, "We Serve" and the only way we can serve effectively is by putting our hands to the task and not to depend on just a few to do. all the things that need to be done in this Club. our Community, and the family Islands.” He also emphasized the need for responsible leadership and strong assistance from all Club members. In concluding the President said: “At the outset, therefore, I would like to challenge and urge every officer, every committee member chairman and every member to organize and get on with the job at hand so that at the end of June 1976, we can say in the true spirit of Lionism, “We each played our part well”.
