The contest was held at The National Council of Social Services 'Family Fair Day in George Town last Monday. The prize of the contest was a brand new Mini motor car, sold to the Kiwanis Club at a cost price through the courtesy of Mr. Derek Wight, a director of TomSum Garage, agents for Minis. The object of the contest was for the winner to guess or estimate the correct weight of the Mini, 850 with its contents two bags of golf clubs a Basket of groceries, two suitcases and various pieces of sporting equipment.
Mrs. Parchment won the Mini. after six people, including herself, had the identical and nearest estimate of the weight of the car, when a mini-raffle was decided on between the six people.
Two bags, one with the golf clubs and the other with the groceries were removed, making the weight of the Mini 1,398 pounds. Mrs. Parchment came up with the nearest figure of 1,400 pounds. The original weight of the car was 1,450 pounds.
This is the first community project of the Kiwanis Club since its inception this year, with plans being made to make the "Car Contest" annual affair. Half of the proceeds of the project will go towards the N.C.C. Community Chest and the remainder for other community needs from the Kiwanis Charity Fund.
