No, it was not another Anguilla situation, but a Cayman Drama Society publicity stunt for THE LONG AND THE SHORT AND THE TALL which opened at the Town Hall last night. The invasion was organised partly because we wanted the public to be aware of the performances at the Town Hall this week, but also because we felt the cast had to get used to being seen in public with their short back and sides haircuts.
Please don't tease our eight Samsons when you see their coiffeurs, we can assure you they haven't lost their strength! We would like to thank Surfside Water Sports for the use of their boat for this landing, and, of course, the Galleon Beach Hotel for their co-operation.
The play, written by Willis Hall, is a drama, but has a tremendous amount of humour. The plot revolves around seven British soldiers who are out on patrol in the Malayan jungle just before the fall of Singapore in World War 11. At first they are confident that this is just another army exercise, but when they capture a Japanese soldier, they realise that the war is a lot closer than they had thought. This realisation brings out the different. characters of the men, and their attitudes to the prisoners vary widely.
It is a very gripping show, and we would ask you not to reveal the shock ending to any of your friends who have not yet seen it.
There are only four more nights to go, - make sure you don't miss it.
