A representative of the Society said that attendance was poor considering the strength of the Society and the presence of new members rather put older ones, who were noticeably absent, to shame. The outgoing Chairman, Mr. John Morgan, in his speech to the floor commented on the "first" struck by the Society during 1973. It was the first year that C.D.S. took a play to Cayman Brac; the Society staged a play at The Cinema; and the first year donations amounting to C.I. $1200, were given to charity. Another accomplishment was that the Society now has a complete set of proper theatrical flats which will make jobs of "the backstage boys" much easier.
Special praise was given to Peter Phillips and his team for the incredible amount of time and effort expended on making 1973 productions the success they have been. A major event of the evening was the announcement that Cayman Drama Society was going ahead with plans to build a home of its own, after being in existence for almost four years.
Plans for the building of the theatre are still in a very early stage, but with singlemindedness, plenty of fund raising activities and help from the community at large whether monetary or with materials, the Society feels that this could be achieved in the not too distant future - maybe only eighteen months! The initial estimate for a small scale theatre is in the region of $50,000.
