The Chairman and Committee of the Drama Society regret to announce that due to circumstances beyond their control the proposed end of season production "Busybody" has had to be cancelled The public will be well aware of the old show business maxim "the show must go on" and the committee had this very much in mind when coming to this decision. Unfortunately however with two of the major actors being forced to relinquish their parts only three weeks before the proposed performance dates together with other technical difficulties there was no alternative but to cancel the production. Mr. Stanley Panton, Chairman of the Society and Director of "Busybody" wishes to place on record his personal thanks to everyone involved with the production, for the time and energy spent in rehearsals and particularly to the backstage crew who put in so much hard work only to see their efforts come to naught. Cast and production difficulties are normal in a small amateur society but this particular production had more than its fair share, not the least of which was the problem of theatre facilities. The Drama Society committee feels strongly that this is a problem which will continue until the Arts are openly encouraged by the Public as well as by Government. It needs a theatre of its own and this can only be achieved by local support. The committee feels it can do no better than quote the words of the late Mr. Winston Churchill "Give us the tools and we'll finish the job"!
